Description
Unfortunately, despite the popularity of the feature film and subsequent television series that provide the basis for this title, "clueless" is what a girl would have to be to derive much of anything from this disappointingly unsubstantial software program.Cher and her friends are back and eager to charm the young computer user with their high school lingo and flippant remarks. They offer a variety of totally frivolous activities, presented in the tongue-in-cheek manner that originally gained them many devoted followers in the teen-wannabe category.
Girls can make over the "Clueless" gang by changing their lips, eyes, makeup, and hairdos, dabble in fashion design by rearranging and modifying the many fashions and accessories in Cher's ultimate closet, play 6 vapid games that focus on such notable topics as "How to Spot a Hottie," (translation--a cute boy), and "How to Improve School Spirit" (answer--decorate your friend's lockers), learn all the valley-girl terminology they never knew, and receive inspirational words of advice from the queen of the airheads herself, Cher.
Sound vaguely familiar? Much of Clueless resembles Let’s Talk About Me Some More from Girl Games--and with good cause. Scrutiny of the credits reveals that Girl Games collaborated on the title, as did Paramount Pictures, producers of the weekly series.
Educational Value
There is an inherent educational value to a child's every interaction with the computer, especially girls in this critical age-range. This program attempts to provide a positive experience that will, presumably, lead to further interest in and familiarity with computer use. Unhappily, it underestimates today’s girls who are smart enough to know when they are being under-served and under-challenged.Kid Appeal
Although the program's coquettish activities are initially intriguing, and occasionally hilarious, after a quick run-through, our kid testers tired of the program. They complained that there was not enough versatility or depth to the games to keep them occupied. "It doesn't take long to do everything, and after that it's like re-reading a book or magazine," was one junior-high student's comment. "Maybe I'd go back to it in a few months, but not right away."Ease of Install / Use
Clueless is, in its own words: "way point and clicky." What more need be said?Best for... / Bottom-Line
Despite its totally awesome potential, this program falls way short in the entertainment category, and as for education, well, its a big zero.
