Soccer Math is a classic math drill program, wrapped in a soccer match disguise. Users sign-in to the program by creating their own team name, then select one of eight basic math subjects to practice. These include: place value, whole number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), measurement (english and metric), greatest common factors, least common multiples, fractions, and percents/decimals. Each subject can be reviewed at different difficulty levels - some subjects offer three, others offer four levels to choose from.

Practice consists of a set of ten problems to be solved while a player is juggling a soccer ball in the background, to the encouragement of the coach. These multiple choice problems have no time limit; correct answers cause the coach to offer words of praise; incorrect answers cause the player to boot the ball, and receive words of encouragement. Regardless of the user's proficiency, after attempting the ten problems, the user is given the option to continue juggling, or move on to play a game.

Playing a game adds time pressure to the problems, with the user given the choice of play levels offering 5, 10, or 15 seconds to answer each problem. Correct answers either move the ball down the field, or return possession to the user. Incorrect answers give the ball to the opponent, or move the ball further away from scoring position.

Educational Value

Soccer Math offers an extensive range of practice problems in each of the subject areas. This is good for the student who understands the subjects, and just needs additional practice. However, students who do not understand how to solve the problems will receive little instructional help from this program.

Kid Appeal

Young soccer fans will find Soccer Math an enjoyable way to practice their math facts and basic math operations skills. It is not, however, an arcade-level game program -- the soccer aspects just provide a context for practicing math skills.

Ease of Use / Install

Soccer Math installed without difficulty on our reviewers' test machines. Program use and navigation is intuitive, and instructions are never more than two clicks away, on a 'Rules' page.

Best for... / Bottom-Line

Soccer Math is best suited for soccer-loving young math students who need to practice their basic math skills, but don't need additional instruction.
