Infant Software -- The Big Picture

Following a surprising number of inquiries, SuperKids has embarked on a review of software designed for the very, very young. Does it make sense to think of educational activities for children so young? Research seems to indicate that it does. But what of the software? Here's a quick look at the first three we have evaluated, along with another to keep track of your baby's growth.

  • Disney's Winnie the Pooh Baby [for ages 9 to 24 months] from Disney, is an extremely simple and straightforward program featuring high interest, lovable characters. A fun introduction to computers.

  • It's My Baby Journal [for parents] from JournalTek, is a digital multimedia version of the classic baby album. Best for parents who prefer computers over scissors and glue!

  • JumpStart Baby [for ages 9 to 24 mos] from Knowledge Adventure offers baby an opportunity to play with and learn from the computer, clicking the mouse or tapping the keyboard to generate responses.

  • Reader Rabbit's Playtime for Baby [for ages 9 to 24 mos] from The Learning Company introduces infants to the computer through a set of engaging activities with their parents. An interactive storybook, a kaleidoscope, musical activites, and colors and patterns are representative.

  • Sesame Street Baby & Me [for ages 1 to 3] from Creative Wonders offers a variety of amusing activities that mirror those experienced in a play-school setting. Songs, movement games, animal sounds, letters, numbers, shapes and more are presented by favorite Sesame Street characters. Works more specifically on teaching use of the mouse and keyboard.
