His virtual career has taken him from comic classic to movie sensation to star of television and video. Now Mickey is poised to take the children's software market by storm. Never mind that the activities in Mickey Mouse Kindergarten are only quasi-educational, and always original -- Mickey carries the program with a demure look, a happy-go-lucky giggle, and, of course, a collection of fabulous friends.

Ace reporter Mickey has just arrived in the 'Big City'. With pad and pen in hand, he prepares to scour the streets, searching for stories. Naturally, plenty await, and each is accompanied by an enjoyable activity. Kids practice number recognition and counting skills as they teach the effervescent Donald to samba. They learn attribute discrimination when they send the correct bellhop to the finicky hotel guest, tell time by comparing Mickey's watch with the town clock, and work on early reading skills while helping sleepwalking Goofy navigate his way back to his room. They will learn to follow directions in a hide and seek game with a wily thief and practice counting and addition skills in the video arcade. In addition, users unloose their creativity with a colorful sign-making activity and pursue away-from-the-computer activities with a printable Internet-like newspaper.

Educational Value

Although Mickey Mouse Kindergarten includes many learning activities, its focus is more on fun. It provides kids with an enjoyable interactive experience with the computer and increasing familiarity with computer basics. The program includes the "Active Leveling Advantage" system which automatically increases the difficulty level of activities after a certain number of consecutively correct answers are provided. Skills addressed in the various activities include: addition, counting, number patterns, problem solving, attribute discrimination, color matching, telling time (digital and analog), letter order, word building, word recognition and sight reading, following directions, listening, music appreciation, and spatial awareness.

Mickey Mouse Kindergarten is fun for all. It's better than Saturday morning cartoons, because kids can interact with the characters and impact the story. And despite his growing sophistication, Mickey's guileless charm makes each user feel like a special friend.
