This excellent preschool program shines because of its deservedly well-loved cast and simple yet compelling storyline. Based on the movie of the same name, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland begins as Zoe asks to share Elmo's precious blue blanket. When Elmo refuses, Zoe makes a grab for it, and a tussle ensues. The blanket flies out of Elmo's hands and lands in Oscar the Grouch's garbage can. To retrieve his blanket, Elmo must venture through the Oscar's can to "Grouchland". Here, newcomers are made to feel 'unwelcome', grouches visit 'Ugly Salons' and Elmo's blanket is not easily recovered. Thank goodness Elmo can count on help from his (virtual) friends!

The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland is aimed at very young users, hence its educational value lies largely in its storytelling components. As preschoolers listen to the story unfold they absorb new vocabulary, spoken language nuances, and the basics of story progression.
