DreamBox Learning K-2 Math [for ages 4 to 8] from DreamBox Learning, is a web-based, self-paced, adaptive, interactive program. Most of the educational content is presented in a practice or drill format, with progressively larger numbers, rather than in a teaching format, where concepts are first explained, then practiced. Appropriate for extra practice at home or school, or as the basis for a homeschooling class.
Professor Finkle's Basic Division [for ages 8 and up] from MME Multimedia Educators, successfully teaches introductory division through lesson videos, games, and printable worksheets, making the topic as fun as possible.
Leapster: Sonic X [for ages 5 to 7] from LeapFrog, is a mathematical adventure that takes the user on a quest to rescue Sonic's friends from an evil villain. Saving them requires answering simple, age-appropriate math problems.
Timez Attack [for ages 7 to 10] from Big Brainz, is a tightly focused educational software program, cleverly disguised as a captivating video game. Want to learn your times tables while playing a video game? Check it out!
Soccer Math [for ages 7-14] from EdVenture Software, is a classic math drill program, wrapped in a soccer match disguise. Best suited for soccer-loving young math students who need to practice their basic math skills, but don't need additional instruction.
The Number Devil: A Mathematical Adventure [for ages 8 and up] from Viva Kids, presents a collection of intriguing number concepts ranging from prime numbers to square roots, to Fibonacci numbers. Best-suited for 8-15 year-olds with at least some interest in math.
Math Missions: The Amazing Arcade Adventure Grades 3-5 [for ages 8-11] from Scholastic, includes more than a dozen math activities covering a wide range of grade-appropriate skills, in everyday settings. Best-suited for students that are working at the indicated grade levels.
Math Missions: The Race to Spectacle City Arcade Grade K-2 [for ages 5-8] from Scholastic, covers a number of key math concepts for early learners, ranging from counting and number association, thru addition and subtraction, to time and measurement. Best for children who already have some familiarity with basic math concepts, and with using a computer mouse and keyboard.
Math & the Cosmos [for ages 12-18] from Wildridge Education, addresses geometry, trigonometry, graphing, solving equations and scientific notation in the context of astronomy. Best for students who need to review topics in math or have a particular interest in astronomy.
Mongro's Monstrous Money Math [for ages 5 to 8] from Ohio Distinctive, offers an electronic board game that largely fails to live up to its promise to teach the basics of the monetary system.
Mia’s Math Adventure: Just In Time! [for ages 6 to 10] from Kutoka and Topics Entertainment, provides an entertaining way to reinforce a wide variety of age-appropriate math skills.
StudyWorks Mathematics Deluxe [for ages 14 and up] from Mathsoft, provides high school math students with tutorials, practice and homework problem-solving assistance. Best for motivated students, and parents who need a refresher.
Math Advantage 2002 [for ages 11 and up] from Encore Software, covers 6th-12th grade math on a series of CDs. The program is best-suited for students who are studying these subjects and want additional review and practice.
Transition Math [for ages 4 to 6] from School Zone Publishing, is appropriate for accelerated Kindergarten and/or First Grade students. It succinctly covers a variety of necessary math skills.
Grade 1 Math [for ages 6 to 7] from School Zone Publishing, like its sibling product above, is a math reinforcement and acceleration program. It doesn't waste a lot of time with fancy introductions. Nonetheless, it provides sufficient rewards and study breaks to appeal to kids.
Grade 2 Math [for ages 6 to 7] from School Zone Publishing, is an electronic workbook for second grade math, reviewing and practicing skills which range from single digit subtraction and addition to double and triple digit addition and subtraction with borrowing and carrying numbers. Heavy on drills.
Math & Music [for ages 11 to 18] from Wildridge Education, is an excellent introduction to the physics of waves, the biology of hearing, algebra and trignometry.
M&M's: The Lost Formulas [for ages 5 to 10] from Simon & Schuster Interactive, provides simple math facts practice opportunities within the context of a beautifully animated video arcade game.
Robob’s Cubetronic Quizimajig [for ages 3 to adult] from Ohio Distinctive Software, trains users to match simple shapes, and then to replicate complex patterns.
Beat the Calculator [for ages 7 and up] from ABATEC Educational Software, is designed to improve a person’s skills at mental math. Good for strong math students, but weaker or less confident students will require adult support and positive feedback.
